2014 Season is finally here...

  1. The boats are coming back out from winter storage and the gear is getting the cobwebs brushed from it. It can only mean that summer is here.

The line up for the 2014 tour is looking pretty awesome with three tour stops along with the International Rider cup where the Brits, Americans and Australians will be battling it out.

Not to forget the new tour boat which had its first outing this weekend at White Rose WSC to check out its amazingly smooth wake.

The Tour kicks off at Castle Water Ski Club, Tattershall Lakes Holiday Park on Friday 9th May with practice sessions available on the Friday, a Saturday night party and the main competition event on Sunday 11th May. This event is paired with the Wale & Ski Boats Rider League Wakeboard competition which is running on the Saturday, so please contact Simon Waring if you are interested in entering both events. The format is similar to Kneeboard with divisions for all ages and abilities so please get involved! A System 2.0 wakeboard competition will also run on the Sunday so there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

We then move on to Tour Stop two at South Yorkshire Boat and Ski Club, Sheffield. Practice sessions will be available on the Saturday 21st of June whilst fitting in with club members. On Sunday 22nd the main competition will be held. Camping is available all weekend onsite for competitors, family and friends.

Next another Big weekend line up of riding and partying for the International Rider Cup hosted by White Rose Water Ski Club, Elland. The weekend will kick off on the Thursday 24th of July with practice sessions available through to Friday. The competing will start on Saturday and continue onto Sunday, with banquet evening on the Saturday evening. Please get your orders for tickets in ASAP as this event will be first come first serve.

To close the season with a bang we are revisiting Humber Bridge Water Ski Club on the 6th & 7th of September for the 2014 UK Kneeboard Nationals - a two day event with the standard Kneeboard Saturday night party breaking up the weekend. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Saturday and Sunday, with an evening meal subject to availability on the Saturday night.

For more information on each of the events follow the menu above to the tour stops. Hope to see you all there and don’t forget to bring along your friends and family.

Tour Stop 2 - Castle WSC, 23 June 2013

  1. I’m sure everyone will agree we had a great weekend at Castle Waterski Club. Huge thanks to the club for giving up their water (and well done to the members who entered the event  - great riding!).

We arrived on the Sunday morning to wind and rain but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for the second event of the season. First up was the slalom event, with a few nervous competitors working out the best strategy for attempting the full course for the first time. The weather conditions were not helping, with strong winds making it even harder to post a good score in the event.

Despite the weather, new competitor Jack Sharples posted an impressive score of 54 in Junior Division 2, followed by Jordan Mallett and Todd Wood who was competing in slalom for the first time after being promoted from the Rookie Division. Liam Thody then took the top spot in Junior Division 1, with Jason Stockin in 2nd.

Next up was the Rookies wake crossings, with both competitors entering their first competitions. Will Feaver scored an impressive 70 points in his first event, but this was not enough to top local rider Jessica Gibson’s impressive 105 points.

With the wind picking up even more, it was onto the adult slalom divisions, with Jamie Stockin taking 1st place in Open Division 2, and Dom Chandler taking 1st in Open Division 1 after being the only competitor to make it past their first pass in difficult conditions. Steve Cranie provided the rest of his division watching on the dock with some top entertainment, taking a spectacular fall through the entrance gates!

First place in Premier was taken by Ryan Davis, closely followed by Jason Ellis, with both riders appearing unfazed by the choppy water.

After a short lunch break, it was onto the trick event. Junior Division 2 was a closely fought battle, with Todd Wood landing a Wake 180 Front for the first time to take 1st place in his first competition as a Junior. Jordan Mallett took 2nd, with a good attempt at a back roll at the end of his run, followed by Jack Sharples in 3rd.

Liam Thody, back from a recent injury then landed his back roll to take 1st in Junior Division 1, with Jason Stockin in 2nd.

Jessica Gibson again took the gold in Rookies with 90 points after trying (and succeeding!) a reverse 360 for the first time, closely followed by Will Feaver on 70 points.

The Open 2 division saw two new entrants for the afternoon, with Allan Aveyard entering despite having never tried kneeboarding before! He took 3rd place, managing to ride away from a dock start first time (before headbutting a pink buoy!). Local rider Lee Miller also had little experience, having only been on a kneeboard once before. He amazed everyone with a great performance, even coming close to landing a back roll! Seasoned competitor Jamie Stockin took first place however with a score of 540 points.

Open Division 1 was set to be a closely fought battle between six riders – all of them determined to perform better after their poor slaloming in the morning. Kev Coe took the bronze with, the top two places being claimed by the girls – Shavonne Cooper scoring 1,650, and Rachel Clarke with 2,230.

Last up in the trick event were the three Premier riders. Ryan Davis took third after falling on his first trick, with Ian Wilkinson taking second, and Jason Ellis first with a huge 4,250 points.

The final event of the day was the flip out, with Ian Wilkinson taking 1st with 4 flips, followed by Jason Ellis (also on 4), Liam Thody with 3 and Kev Coe with 1 flip.

All in all, a great competition! Again, a huge thank you goes to Castle WSC for the use of their lake – and well done to those members who entered and took away medals! Also thanks to the drivers, judges and Simon Waring for keeping us entertained throughout the day on the mic!

The next event is at White Rose WSC on 4 August. We are hoping to make a full weekend of it – more information to follow on this. See you all there!

2013 Season

  1.

We hope you are all looking forward to the coming season and that the weather soon improves enough to get back out on the lake!

    Rider Cup 2013

Unfortunately at the present time it is again looking unlikely that the event will be going ahead. Two deadlines have now passed for gaining a response from the USA, so we have to assume that it will not be happening this year.

The event was to be held at White Rose WSC, Elland on 3/4 August 2013, so we have now agreed to incorporate the 4th August for the third tour stop.

    Kneeboard Tour 2013

Apologies for the delay in releasing the rest of the dates for this season – we have had some difficulties in securing dates and venues for this year.

We can now confirm dates for three of the four events. The second event is still to be confirmed, however we are hoping to confirm the venue for one of the final two Sundays in June, or the beginning of July. (More info will be available after 5th April).

19 May – Calmwater Bay, Knaresborough (Two-round Trick event)

    June/July – TBC

4 August – White Rose WSC, Elland

7/8 September – Humber Bridge WSC (Finals)

The first competition is not far away now. We have managed to secure a competition at a new site so would appreciate everyone’s support at this event in particular.  The address for Calmwater Bay is; Farnham Quarry, Boroughbridge Road, Knaresborough, Nr Harrogate, HG50QQ – check their website for directions)

Camping will be available (the site does have changing rooms but does not however have showers), and the club will be putting on a BBQ on Sunday. The site is also only 2 minutes drive away from Knaresborough town centre, so there are plenty of hotels/shops nearby.

The club does not have a full slalom course, so we will be running two rounds of tricks for the first competition only.

    A New Kneeboard Championship

Following on from the discussion forum at Marnham, we have decided to implement a championship format this season.

The season’s overall winner will be calculated based on the scores from the events throughout the season. Please make sure you attend as many events as possible to be in with a chance of the overall championship title.

We have decided to present prizes in the form of medals for all competitions, with a trophy for the Championship winners of each division at the end of the season.

The winners and of each division of the Kneeboard Tour Finals at Humber Bridge will also receive trophies, so it is now possible to ‘win the double’!

    Competition Entry Fees

We have decided to freeze the entry fees at the same level as the 2012 season, despite incurring a loss due to the difficult economic climate.

We would appreciate it if everyone could please support all events this year, or regrettably we will be forced to pass on the increase in price for next season.

Important: please be reminded of the deadline for competition entry fees of 7 clear days before the event. Late entries created a significant amount of extra work in chasing money and forms last season, as well as influencing the decision whether to run a competition in the event of low numbers.

So therefore, it is essential that entry forms and payments be received 7 days prior the competitions.

An entry form is attached so please get your form completed and returned now for the first event.

    Cable Kneeboarding

Those of you on the UK Kneeboarding Facebook page will be aware of the recent interest in cable kneeboarding (we recommend watching the videos on there if you haven’t already!).

Most of you will be aware of the proposed cable meet up at Box End Park, Bedford on Monday 6 May (Bank Holiday). This is a great way to promote the sport, as well as trying something new at an informal meet-up, so if you are interested, please get involved!

Further details will be posted on Facebook as they become available.

    Training

Jason Ellis is looking into organising a training day. Further details will be posted once confirmation has been received.

    Judges Wanted!

We are looking to increase our numbers of kneeboard judges.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who does not compete to get involved.

Full training will be provided, and if there are a number of people who wish to be involved we will consider running judge’s training days in conjunction with rider’s training days.

    The Website

Please keep checking the website as we are updating this regularly.

Please could you all send in any content which could be included – only a few people have supplied their Rider Profile so far, and any photos, articles or videos you have would also be great.

Please send any information to be included to Ryan via email at ryan@davisnetsystems.com
